committed approach

01.

Our suppliers:

Implementation of a responsible purchasing policy (our suppliers are selected based on environmental criteria)

02.

Eco-design:

Everything is designed to emit as little waste as possible throughout the production process.

03.

Designed to last:

Thanks to our ability to re-stretch the leather and replace the soles, our shoes can last a lifetime.

04.

Recycling :

Leather scraps are reused whenever possible, or resold to individuals or leather craftsmen.

What choices do we have for our raw materials?

For its exceptional leathers, La Botte Gardiane uses tanneries committed to environmental responsibility (all water is filtered and treated), primarily located in France (and in Italy and Spain if the leathers have no equivalent in France). We use 100% vegetable-tanned leather for over 20% of our production; this leather is non-polluting and guaranteed chrome-free. We use accessories such as shoe boxes made from recycled cardboard and manufactured in France, tissue paper produced by a French Living Heritage Company, and even our thank-you cards are French!

We have established long-term, trusting relationships with our main suppliers. Our focus is not on finding the lowest prices, but on consistently offering a product of excellence, ideally sourced from France. We only select a French supplier if their quality criteria are met; the raw materials must offer genuine added value.

How to minimize leather waste?

The leather cutting process is optimized to minimize waste. Leather scraps from boots are reused for sandals, linings, bracelets, or insoles. Some scraps are also available for sale or given away.

All the building's lighting (interior and exterior) is entirely LED. Furthermore, La Botte Gardiane has followed the CARSAT's recommendations to equip each workstation with 500-lumen LED lighting. This ensures real comfort for operators (no stroboscopic effect or eye strain) and energy savings. The building is constructed according to the RT2012 standard: The building sector is the largest energy consumer in France (42.5% of total final energy) and generates 23% of greenhouse gas emissions. To combat this and reduce energy consumption in French homes, the Grenelle Environment Forum implemented a program to fight climate change and control energy consumption. The RT 2012 thermal regulation is one of the measures adopted following the Grenelle Environment Forum. The workshop/shop parking lot is equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles.

Ethics

physical integrity of employees

Our workshop, located in Aigues-Vives in the south of France, is equipped with a centralized dust and solvent extraction system. Therefore, there are no fine particles or solvent vapors in the air that our employees could inhale.

fight against DISCRIMINATION

La Botte Gardiane is fighting against discrimination of all kinds, whether in hiring or throughout its employees' careers. Equal pay for men and women, employee diversity, and accessibility for people with disabilities are just a few examples.

Subtitle 1

Everything is done, as far as possible, to promote well-being at work. Noise pollution generated by production activities is reduced thanks to micro-perforated soundproof walls that improve acoustics. To cope with high temperatures, the building, in addition to being constructed according to the RT2012 standard, is fully air-conditioned.

02.

common living space

The new Aigues-Vives premises feature a spacious and bright break room with a terrace and comfortable furnishings. Facilities encourage recreational activities and team building: a foosball table and a ping-pong table (made in France, of course).

03.

work life

To accommodate everyone's lifestyle, La Botte Gardiane has implemented a time management system: each employee can adjust their schedule as they see fit and make up any missed hours if necessary. Every two weeks, we hold a "fougasse meeting" (a local bread specialty) to discuss the company's health, the status of orders, and any challenges or successes we encounter. Finally, each employee is invited twice a year to an individual interview to share their feelings about their role, their work environment, their teamwork, and their aspirations. We strive to ensure that no one comes to these meetings feeling stressed or anxious.

HOW are our suppliers chosen?

Where do our leathers come from?

Generally speaking, 65% of our supplies come from France, 25% from Italy, and 10% from Spain. More specifically, our leathers come from:

  • From Alsace for the soft full-grain leathers, and the oiled full-grain leathers which constitute the bulk of our production.
  • From Mazamet for our metallic leathers.
  • From Graulhet for our sheepskin leathers
  • From Italy for our famous Camargue rump leather, for suede leathers, glitter leathers, vegetable tanned leathers, python pattern leathers, patent leathers and leathers with hair.
  • From Spain for the waxed crust and the leather of our soles.
  • From France for our packaging: cardboard boxes (American-style boxes or shoe boxes), sewing thread, needles, rubber soles, tissue paper, laces.
